This dialog gives access to parameters that control AI (Artificially Intelligent) traffic and has the folllowing tabs:

    Traffic path The name of a BGL file (or files) that contains traffic information+\scenery\world\scenery\traffic*.bgl
    Traffic Active %Controls what percentage of flight plans, from traffic files, are to be activated0100100
    Enable Enable or disable all trafficnoyesyes
    Pause Freezes all traffic. Traffic is also paused as long as the simulation is paused (default is the p key)noyesyes
    Display taxi netSpecial BGL files describe the taxiway and parking network at airports. FSImp shows this network at the nearest airport. Green poles and lines show taxiways. White poles show parking positions. Orange lines show runways. Red lines show closed taxiways. Red poles show runway end, lineup and touchdown positionsnoyesno
    High polygon Allows FS aircraft models with high polygon (triangle) counts. These can cause the frame rate of the simulator to fall below target levelsnoyesno
    Make static When parked, FSImp can make static models of traffic aircraft. These are more efficient and can improve frame ratesnoyesyes
    Nose-on pass During taxying some aircraft may end up nose-on to each other. This option controls what is done in these situations. When enabled, aircraft pass through each other under certain conditions. Otherwise, one of them is automatically deletednoyesyes

    Depart NGenerates a number of random departures at the nearest airport. The number generated is specified at the Departures field above. These newly generated aircraft will depart with an interval specified at the Departure gap mn field


  • FSImp uses X-Plane sound files to generate traffic sounds
  • the volume and frequency of sounds depend on distance, power settings and the parameters in this tab
  • interior (cockpit) views dampen the sound a little compared to external views
  • the direction of the sound (3D or panning) is not yet used

    Volume jets The volume for jet engine sounds
    Volume props The volume for propellor engine sounds
    Volume heli The volume for helicoptor engine sounds
    Volume other The volume for other engine sounds
    Modulate vol hz The volume for engine sounds can be modulated (wobbled) at a low frequency for more realism. Specify the frequency here.
    Modulate vol facThe amount of volume that is modulated
    Frequency facThe frequency (pitch) of all engine sounds can be changed using this slider

  • if Co-pilot ATC is not checked then you must perform ATC communication when flying
  • you may change Co-pilot ATC at any time, even when flying
  • when flying, a small dialog box appears giving you buttons for ATC
  • if you do not acknowledge an ATC command within 60 seconds, ATC will repeat the command
  • to obtain startup or taxi clearance you have to press Hello

    RogerGive a positive acknowledgement to an ATC command
    AgainATC will repeat the last command
    HelloMake contact with a controller on a new frequency
    VectorATC will give you a heading to your current target position


  • start a new flight for you or for other traffic
  • added flights are not saved yet
  • the parameters in this dialog are not saved
  • if the start buttons causes your aircraft to crash just try press the button again

    Airline code Three digit airline code (ein)
    - flight num Airline flight number - leave blank generate a random number
    - callsign Airline callsign (shamrock)
    Registration Registration for private flights (ei-eio)
    Depart ICAO ICAO ident for the departing airport. Leave empty if you just want to an arrival.
    Depart time Departure zulu time (hh:mm). If the time has passed then immediately.(00:00)
    Arrive ICAO ICAO ident for the arrival airport
    Alt ft Cruising alttitude (feet)30000
    Aircraft title The title of the aircraft to be used - needed by the Add button only
    Aircraft type Type of aircraft - needed by the Fly and Quick buttons only
    Flight rules whether visual (VFR) or instrument flight rules (IFR)

  • select arrival and departing runways, heading and lengths are displayed
  • allow aircraft by type
  • listen to an FSImp ATC at this airport
  • airport info shown - elevation, magnetic variance, parking positions (airline/total)
  • AFCAD filename shown
  • ATC frequencies are taken from the X-Plane file Resources\Earth Nav Data\apt.dat
  • 0.00 indicates no frequency defined
  • if no approach frequency is defined FSImp uses the tower for approach
  • if no ground frequency is defined FSImp uses the tower for ground
  • any changes made to an airport are saved in a file which is loaded again when X-Plane is started
  • SIDs and STARs are for your information - appropriate ones will be chosen by ATC when needed

  • Press the OK button to apply changes and close the dialog
  • Press the Cancel to close the dialog
  • Press the Apply button to apply new values
  • Restart destroys all active traffic aircraft and then restarts the traffic system
